Abstract
Using the absolute reaction rate theory, a continuum treatment of ordering and spinodal decomposition is derived from the original planar discrete lattice model which was based on a Bragg–Williams type of approach. For small amplitudes the result agrees with Cahnʹs linearized equation for spinodal decomposition. The kinetic equation for ordering has a factor not included in the Allen–Cahn equation which depends on the local degree of order and may have important consequences.
