Abstract
A modified Landau–Ginzburg theory for martensitic transformations is suggested. An accommodation strain energy in parent phase is added into the free energy of the system besides the Landau free energy and gradient energy which have been generally considered. Both the equilibrium state and the dynamic process of martensitic transformations are investigated by solving the equation of motion numerically. Two important features of martensitic transformations, i.e., transformational hysteresis and athermal transformation, can be displayed by the modified model. The results of numerical study of the model agree with experiments well, including surface martensite, thermoelastic and nonthermoelastic martensite formations, autocatalysis and burst transformation.
