Abstract :
The purpose of the present study was to compare bilinguals and monolinguals in terms of language learning strategy
use and also compare bilinguals and monolinguals separately across six categories of language learning strategies. In
order to conduct this study, 100high school male students were selected based on their marks in grade three of EFL
learning, 50 Persian speaking monolingual and 50 male Turkmen-Persian speaking bilinguals. The researcher used
two instruments in this research to investigate learners’ use of the language-learning strategies first, a background
questionnaire and Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) designed by Oxford. Based on the findings of
the study, there was no statistically significant difference in usage across the six categories in monolingual group.
There was statistically significant difference across the categories of strategies in the bilingual group. There was not
a statistically significant difference in the strategy use of bilinguals and monolinguals in general.
