Restoring Permeability Barrier Function to Outer Membrane

A recent issue of Cell published two papers resulting from the collaboration between the Kahne and Silhavy laboratories []. These studies, possibly initiated as an effort to identify the target of action of vancomycin with lipophilic substitutions, resulted in the discovery of a protein complex involved in the assembly of outer membrane proteins.
