Acyclic Peptide Inhibitors of Amylases

In this issue of Chemistry & Biology, a library screening approach reveals a linear octapeptide inhibitor of α-amylases reached by de novo design . The selected molecule shares characteristics with naturally occurring protein inhibitors—a result that suggests general rules for the design of peptide-based amylase inhibitors may be achievable.
