Abstract
The frequency influence on the isothermal fatigue behaviour of austenitic stainless steel AISI 304 was investigated. Pull–push fatigue experiments were performed under anisothermal and isothermal (at 25 °C) conditions. Frequencies between 0.05 Hz and 10 Hz were systematically investigated. It was found that high frequencies in combination with high stress levels result in a temperature increase of the fatigued specimen (anisothermal condition). Therefore nitrogen gas evaporating from liquid nitrogen was used as coolant to realise an isothermal fatigue experiment at 25 °C. Also the influence of the deep rolling on the fatigue behaviour of AISI 304 at different frequencies was investigated.
