Dragline bucket and rigging dynamics

This paper investigates the dynamic response of bucket carry-angle to velocity and force inputs from the drag-rope of an operating dragline. A two degree of freedom, linear model is used to provide a theoretical basis for understanding experimental frequency response data obtained from a 1:20 scale model. The study identifies the limitations imposed on automatic control by non-minimum phase behaviour and pole-zero cancellations inherent in the draglineʹs dynamics.
