Abstract :
Super-GM and the Kansai Electric Power Co., tested a 70 MW class model superconducting generator in actual power system. The model machine, operated as a rotary condenser, was connected to a 77 kV commercial power grid through 77/6.6 kV transformers. It supplied 40 MVar of leading reactive power to the electric power system. The model machine showed an ability to operate steadily through all the tests and various load changes in the commercial electric power system. The test results proved that the small synchronous reactance of the superconducting generator enhances voltage stabilization and their leading reactive capacity is larger, compared with conventional generators.
