Abstract :
This paper deals with the importance of frictional contact model for curved geometry with adaptive remeshing in the finite element simulation of cold forging process using flow formulation. Several industrial forging problems have been solved using the above capabilities. These include axisymmetric analysis of (a) backward extrusion, (b) forward–backward extrusion, (c) a fastener component and (d) plane strain analysis of the coining process. The meshing and remeshing procedures are automatic and are implemented in a finite element analysis package, through which analysis can be carried out without user intervention.
