Abstract :
Functionally gradient materials (FGMs) are receiving great attention as they provide optimum thermal and mechanical properties without a discrete interface between two materials. By controlling the chemical composition and microstructure, Ti–TiB2 based FGM was developed successfully in the present work. Microstructural studies have shown a uniform composition and microstructure gradients in the present FGM system. The effect of particle size and SiC additive on the sintering of the FGM were investigated. The bending strength and fracture toughness of the FGMs fabricated using various processing parameters were also measured.
