Abstract
Form errors in the aerofoil section of a hot-forged turbine blade which arise from the die-cavity deflection due to die elasticity, the deformation and the distortion of the turbine blade during unloading and cooling, were evaluated for a range of forging temperatures using finite element simulation. Thermal energy changes within the material of the blade were simulated together with the plastic deformation to predict both the forging load and the temperature distribution over the deformed material. The established finite element model and analysis procedure would enable calculation of the temperature-related deflection of the component during the deformation and cooling, thereby enabling prediction of the form errors with the aim of improving its manufacturing accuracy.
