Research on the effect of bedrock upon the stress of a gravity dam bulk by the photoelastic method

In this paper, the authors conduct some research into the stress change of a gravity dam bulk using composite photoelastic models and give a brief introduction about the research achievements both in China and abroad from the aspect of stress analysis of the gravity dam bulk under typical complex-based conditions. In combination with one practical selection of an engineering site, research is also conducted on the effect of a weak interlayer and a fault fracture zone upon the stress of the gravity dam bulk and, in order to improve the stress distribution, experiments into bracing are carried out.
