  • Abstract
The influence of the number of passes at constant total strain on mechanical properties was analysed in this work. Austenitic stainless steel was used. Total logarithmic strain of ε=0.28 was obtained in 1–4 passes. Strip rolling, strip drawing through roller dies and bar drawing processes were examined. The mechanical properties of the products (tensile strength, yield strength, percentage elongation) were evaluated after the last pass. It was found that an increase in the number of passes led to changes in strength and plastic properties. It was confirmed that in all processes strength properties grew with increasing number of passes. This was not so in the case of percentage elongation because a significant difference was noticed with regard to ductility of drawn and rolled strips. An attempt to explain this difference was made using X-ray diffraction.
