Abstract
The track equations of ionic motion have been established according to the effect of the magnetic field on charged ions, and the actions of the magnetic field and finishing mechanism have been analyzed in finishing machining through experimental research. The results are as follows: (1) the magnetic field activates the track of ionic motion and makes its path complex, thus the ways towards the workpiece are changed, and therefore the roughness of machined surface is improved; (2) the agitation effect of magnetic field enhances the liquid-phase convection, ionic diffusion and transference, and changes the electrochemical reaction speed, therefore, the electric current intensity is increased and the finishing efficiency is also raised; (3) there are optimal matching conditions between the magnetic and the electrical field and the electrodes gap; (4) the effect on a rough surface is stronger than that on a fine surface when introducing a magnetic field, and this phenomenon is propitious to reducing the initial wear quantity, and increasing contact stiffness, which is of advantage in reducing damage to the substrate.
