Abstract
The new intense plastic straining processes, constrained groove pressing (CGP) and constrained groove rolling (CGR), have been developed for fabrication of ultrafine-grained metallic materials. In CGP and CGR, the material is subjected to repetitive shear deformation under plane-strain and generalized plane-strain conditions, respectively. The accumulated strain is comparable to that obtained by equal channel angular pressing (ECAP). In the present study, the plastic deformation during these processes was investigated by experiment as well as the rigid-plastic finite element method (FEM). Details of the deformation characteristics found in the investigation are discussed in this paper.
