  • Abstract
    The integral hydro-bulging technology employed in manufacturing spheroidal vessels has shown its visible benefits of lower cost and easy processing performance in engineering applications. Further potential for more extensive use in industry makes a formability study on the details of the technology more important such study involving the option of preform type and the shape lay-out for each associated segment. Different preform types have an impact on the level of the maximum deformation and the corresponding deformation properties in the performance of the subsequent integral hydro-bulging process. The total number of segments and the shape of the segments are likewise highly important factors. Relying on a simple analytical method, the expansion ratio parameter, the basic formability related to a prepared preform is discussed. The purpose is to determine a fitting preform type for a specified engineering application in a commercially processing performance.
