Downward melt drag twin roll caster

A downward melt drag twin roll caster was devised as a base caster for a composite strip caster. A clad strip and a wire-inserted strip can be cast using the downward melt drag twin roll caster. The downward melt drag twin roll caster is one of the horizontal types twin roll caster. In the downward melt drag twin roll caster, a nozzle is attached to an upper roll. Therefore, there is enough space around the roll bite in order to attach an apparatus for the casting of composite strips. A slope was formed at the nozzle. The strip is dragged though the slope by the roll. In the present study, fundamental features of the melt drag twin roll caster were shown. The relationship between casting conditions (i.e. slope length, slope depth) and the strip thickness was investigated.
