Abstract :
This paper describes the possible benefits of including the true state of a formed metallic part instead of nominal isotropic properties in mechanical qualification simulations. In practice, that means mapping of forming simulation results as initial conditions to a mechanical FE model. The subject is studied with case studies on mobile phone cover parts, using modal analysis, static and dynamic loading conditions, and making comparisons between nominal and forming history adjusted thicknesses. The metallic cover parts are made by deep drawing and the process is simulated with a one-step solver. The results show that inclusion of manufacturing history as initial conditions has significance in mechanical simulations.
