Abstract :
Hybrid vehicles are seen as one of the major solutions in reducing the consumption of gasoline and emissions of greenhouse gases. Besides the reduction of greenhouse gases, hybrid vehicles could contribute to the reduction of the operating cost of the user. Hybrid vehicles on our roads are expected to increase in the next few years through enabling policies governing the transport sector. In this paper, a 1325kg series-parallel gasoline-electric vehicle (GEV) having a maximum internal combustion engine (ICE) and electric motor power output of 57kW and 50kW respectively was modeled and simulated using MATLAB/simulink. MATLAB/Simulink has shown to be a cost effective approach for designing a gasoline-electric vehicle since the vehicle components can be optimized easily.
