Abstract :
A plough seeder was designed and fabricated using chisel plough to perform ploughing and sowing operations simultaneously. Complete random design was used to conduct the field work, so broadcasting method of sowing and plough seeder method each was replicated four times. Performance indices and yield attributes such as operation speed, total time / plot, theoretical field capacity, effective field capacity, field efficiency, plant density, and crop yield were determined. The results demonstrated that the higher values of effective field capacity, field efficiency and crop yield were 0.61 ha/h, 85.5 %, and 1399.9 kg/ha respectively and they were recorded by plough seeder method, while the lower values of effective field capacity, field efficiency and crop yield were 0.53 ha/h, 75.4 %, and 1112.5 kg/ha and they were recorded by broadcasting method and the differences between two methods were significant at P ? 0.001. Broadcasting method demonstrated higher values of total time/plot and plant density and they were 411.8 s and 23 plant/m2 respectively, while in case of plough seeder method the values were 355.7 s and 16 plant/m2 . Operational speed and theoretical field capacity recorded no significant differences at P ? 0.001 between two methods.
