Abstract
Based on the theory of pool boiling heat transfer and the practical situations of continuous pool cooling in a quenching process, a corrected mathematical model of Leidenfrostʹs transitional ideal model is presented and a more general form of subcooling boiling heat transfer is proposed. The phase transformation latent heat is introduced into internal thermal resource. The expressions of the corresponding configuration factors and boundary heat transfer condition are derived. And the governing equation for heat conduction is established and subsequently solved by means of the finite element method. The transient temperature distribution of the step axle during quenching with water is obtained, and the effects of phase transformation and shape are discussed. The calculated results are then compared with the experimental results.
