Abstract :
During the next half-century, the energy needs of mankind are likely to grow substantially, all the more if one hopes to begin to bridge part of the gap between industrialized and developing countries. Where shall we find the energy, to sustain a long-term development? Today, this does not seem possible without a significant contribution from nuclear energy… but many stumbling blocks have appeared on the road of nuclear power. Can Science open new ways over, or around, these stumbling blocks? This contribution reviews the possibilities of nuclear energy in satisfying the worldʹs needs for the twenty first century.
