Abstract :
A high energy storage ring for ions and antiprotons with a bending power of 50 Tm, which allows to store and cool protons and antiprotons with momenta up to 15 GeV/c and heavy ions with specific charge of 0.5 up to 7.5 GeV/c per nucleon is presented. Its main new feature is a high energy electron cooling device with electron energies up to 8 MeV, which provides strong enough cooling power to cool away intra beam scattering of dense antiproton beams and the heating of fairly thick internal targets. Some physics highlights for the study of gluonic excitations and charmonium dynamics are presented.
