Abstract
Results are presented from BNL experiment 910 on the centrality and target dependence of projectile stopping, Λ and K0S production, and π− production in p-A collisions. The data, taken together, suggest that the “stopping” of the baryon number and the stopping of the energy carried by the incident baryon in p-A collisions proceeds via different physical processes. We discuss a possible interpretation of the data in terms of constituent or valence quark interactions.
