Pairing correlations in nuclei: old knowledge and new ideas Original Research Article

We present a limited overview of recently suggested ideas for the description of pairing correlations in nuclei. Exact solution for the pairing problem and based on that new theoretical approximations, phase transition to the paired state, “pair-vibrational” excitations, role of incoherent residual interactions, pairing in the continuum, and other related subjects are discussed.
