Abstract :
We have obtained high-resolution, moderate S/N spectroscopy of 5 near-turnoff stars in the intermediate metallicity ([Fe/H]∼ −0.8) globular cluster M 71. These data are used to derive the abundances of 10 elements. For the particular elements examined here, no evidence of star-to-star scatter is seen, and our results, by and large, confirm previous results based on evolved stars in the cluster. A notable exception, however, is that our unremarkable near-solar [Ba/Y] ratio is considerably smaller than that inferred from the cluster giants. Whether this is a signature of post-cluster-formation pollution, surprising in situ processing, or systematic analysis errors is unclear. Additional work on the light-s elements (Rb, Sr, Zr) in our near-turnoff objects might clarify the issue.
