Hypernuclear studies at FAIR with P̄ANDA Original Research Article

The construction of the recently approved Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research (FAIR) at GSI will allow to produce a large number of different double Λ-hypernucleus species by exploiting View the MathML source-nucleus annihilations at energies just above the View the MathML source pair creation threshold. Among other physics goals, the P̄ANDA (antiProton ANnihilation at DArmstadt) Collaboration is aiming to carry on an extensive program of high resolution γ-spectroscopy of such systems. The double Λ-hypernucleus production method and the proposed experimental setup are briefly discussed.
