Abstract :
The low energy loss regions of a large array of measured doubly differential cross sections for inclusive continuum single charge exchange (SCX) for (p,nx) and (π,π0x) are analyzed in the Bjorken scaling system to seek similarities in their corresponding responses. Spectra are considered for proton beam energies from 495 to 1600 MeV, across a very wide range of target nuclei. For many cases, use of a simple Glauber model and a very simple mechanism are shown to unite the (p,nx) responses of these nuclei for Bjorken scaling variables xB larger than one, with energy losses less than would be obtained for quasifree scattering, and many of the responses are seen to be the same for all energies and many angles. The pion SCX spectra at two energies are found to match those induced by protons. Comparisons are made to similar continuum spectra without charge exchange (NCX).
