Abstract :
Manufacturing of complex shaped ceramic materials is becoming very complicated due to the difficulties involved in the machining of ceramics. Therefore green machining of pressed forms is gaining more attention in the ceramic industry. In this communication acrylic-based co-polymer emulsions were prepared and used as binders in the ceramic materials such as Lanthanum chromite or strontium chromite. These were then pelletized. The green density and green strength of these pellets were determined. The acrylic co-polymers were characterized by 1H NMR spectroscopy to ensure the absence of unreacted monomer. Glass transition temperature (Tg) of all the co-polymers was calculated theoretically and their effect on the green strength of the ceramic-binder composites has been studied.
