Lightly sulfonated poly(phenylene oxide)/poly(styrene-co-4-vinyl pyridine) blend: interpolymer interaction and miscibility

The phase behavior of lightly sulfonated poly(phenylene oxide) (SPPO)/poly(styrene-co-4-vinylpyridine) (PSVP) blend was investigated by DSC. It was found that the acid–base interaction between the sulfonic group of SPPO and the pyridine ring of PSVP improves miscibility effectively. This acid–base interaction was demonstrated by viscometry, IR spectra and 1C-NMR spectra.
