Abstract
Miscibilities between poly(oxyalkylene)s (1-substituted oxyethylene, 2,2-disubstituted oxytrimethylene, and 1-substituted oxyethylene-co-oxyethylene) containing chloromethyl and/or methylsulfonylmethyl side groups were studied. No pairs of poly(oxyalkylene)s containing only chloromethyl side groups were miscible. However, some pairs of poly(oxyalkylene)s containing both chloromethyl/methylsulfonylmethyl and only methylsulfonylmethyl side groups were found to be miscible. Miscibilities of these polymers were rationalized using dipole–dipole interactions, non-hydrogen bonded solubility parameters, and free volume differences.
