Synthesis of poly(methacrylate)s containing 4-hydroxybenzoate functional groups

Synthesis of poly(methacrylate)s containing 4-hydroxybenzoate groups as the functional groups was carried out. First, a methacrylate monomer having 4-benzyloxybenzoate group was prepared. Then, free-radical copolymerization of the monomer with methyl methacrylate in various feed ratios initiated by AIBN was demonstrated to give copolymers, followed by deprotection of the benzyl groups, giving rise to the desired polymers containing 4-hydroxy benzoate groups.
