Abstract :
Aim of this study is to determine the effect of zinc supplement of 6 weeks on the right and left hand grasping, back power, vertical jumping, flexibility and aerobic and anaerobic powers of male athletes and sedentary people. Research is realized on 40 healthy male subjects whose ages varied between 18 and 22, and research groups are formed as follows. Experimental subjects are classified into four groups of 10 persons. Pretest-posttest design is used in this study.
1st Group: Control group for which no application is performed (Sedentary)
2nd Group: Sedentary group only with zinc supplement (Zinc)
3rd Group: Training group with zinc supplement (Zinc + Training)
4th Group: Athletes’ group who are training (Training)
When the differences between the left hand grasping, right hand grasping and back power values are examined, the difference between the pretest and posttest values are considered as significant (p < 0.05). When the values between the groups are examined, statistically important differences are found between the values of 3rd group and 4th group, and values of 1st group and 2nd group (p < 0.05). It is found that 1st group is different than the other groups when post test measurements are investigated in terms of back power (p < 0.05).
The difference between the pretest and posttest measurements of 4th group is determined in terms of vertical jumping (p < 0.05). When the posttest measurements are considered, there are statistically significant differences between the values of 3rd group and 4th group, and between the values of 1st group and 2nd group (p < 0.05).
There is difference between the pretest and posttest values of the 1st group and 2nd group when anaerobic power values are investigated (p > 0.05). The difference between the pretest and posttest values of the 3rd and 4th groups is statistically important (p < 0.05). Differences between all groups in terms of the posttest measurements are statistically significant (p < 0.05).
There are differences between the pretest and posttest values of 2nd, 3rd and 4th groups when we consider the aerobic power measurements (p < 0.05). There is difference between the 1st group and the other groups when posttest measurements are examined in terms of aerobic power values (p < 0.05).
Results of this study reveals that zinc supplement of 6 weeks and exercise have influence on some of the physical parameters.
