Abstract
The current study aims to study the effect of relaxation training on stress reduction
of mothers with educable mentally retarded children. In form of a semiexperimental
research project, mothers of 40 educable mentally retarded children
were selected through random sampling from Narmak Center of Rehabilitation,
Tehran/Iran. The study was a posttest-pretest design with control group. After
administration of the pre-test, participants were randomly divided into two control
and experimental groups. For 20 mothers of the experimental group who received
higher scores in stress pre-test, 10 relaxation-training sessions were held, however,
20 mothers of the control group received not any training. Then, post-test was
administered for both groups. The instruments applied in execution of current
study included: Self developed demographical questionnaire, Mental Stress
Questionnaire was used the Questionnaire on Resources and Stress
