Abstract :
Plane hexagonal and hexagonal prism linear finite elements consistent with the temperature formulation of the Finite Element Method (FEM) are proposed. The main aim is to extend the set of existing finite elements and to get an appropriate tool for the specific composite materials spatial discretization (hexagonal elements could be especially efficient in modelling of the fiber-reinforced structures in their transverse direction). The 3D extension of plane hexagons can be used for meshing of the fiber-reinforced composites as well as the homogenized structures according in both deterministic and stochastic FEM formulations.
