Abstract :
The effort discussed here examined the issue of information technology (IT) classification within the financial services industry. Phase I utilized a Delphi study, involving 31 participants from 11 organizations, to provide initial specification of a capability-based typology of IT. Phase II of the research was a multiple case study that further refined the construct specifications and explored issues in technology application. Results of the Delphi and case study analysis suggested that differentiation within the IT construct occurred along a capability-based continuum that incorporated four primary IT attributes. These attributes included system scope, system focus, system accessibility, and the level of IT integration.
