Abstract :
The start-up of the Watts Academy in 1715 and some members of its staff in the following 35 yr are identified. J. Stirling was a conspicuous member of the Academy but B. Robins much less so. Aspects of their probable scientific relationship and that with others in other respects in this environment are speculated upon.
