Abstract
A crystallographic model accounting for the interaction of the β-18R single interface transformation with dislocations is developed. An intrinsic thermoelasticity arises from the loss of the Burgers vectors translation symmetry of the dislocations when they are absorbed by the growing martensite. This thermoelasticity is proportional to the dislocation density and the fault energies, and depends on the geometrical orientation of the specimen surfaces, the orientation of the dislocation line directions and their associated stacking faults. The dependence of the temperature with the interface position is initially linear and then it tends gradually to a constant value. A good agreement between calculated and available experimental data is found.
