Abstract :
Discrete breathers created in the immediate neighborhood of an impurity were introduced to explain an experimentally observed decay anomaly of the slow emission component in doped alkali halides. We study the effect of temperature on these breathers to find a correlation with the corresponding dependence of the anomaly as seen in experiments. As the temperature increases the decay anomaly weakens and is ultimately extinguished. In the light of the breather explanation this corresponds to temperature-induced breather decay. We present a study of the dissipative effects of temperature on lattice breathers.
