Abstract :
Titanium silicon carbide (Ti3SiC2) is a remarkable material for it combines the best properties of metals and ceramics. When Ti3SiC2 is synthesized by normal sintering, the self-combustion reaction usually takes place. In this work, self-combustion reaction is avoided by adding B2O3 sintering aids, obtaining 83 vol.% Ti3SiC2. Morphology and preferred orientation of Ti3SiC2 grains are also studied and compared with those without B2O3 aid.
