Abstract :
Rolling with induced strain path is one of the metal forming methods belonging to the severe plastic deformation (SPD) processes. These processes allow, through the use of specific deformation scheme, to obtain severe plastic strain in a single operation. Deformation aided by shear stresses also gives the opportunity to form materials which were intractable for plastic deformation in the conventional process conditions. Therefore, there are new opportunities to produce materials with improved properties and performance, e.g. for automotive industry. Results of preliminary studies on the properties and structure of the material after the rolling process with induced strain path are presented in this paper. Analysis of micro- and sub-structure as well as microhardness tests of rolled strips from commercial aluminum was conducted during research. Obtained results allowed a positive assessment of this forming method applicability for the manufacturing of products characterized by ultrafine and uniform structure.
