Abstract :
This paper presents a novel method for producing composite and ceramic microspheres containing zinc for bone regeneration. The microspheres were prepared from a mixture of sodium alginate and hydroxyapatite that was extruded into a zinc nitrate solution. After 24 h in the solution, Na+ exchange with Zn2+ ions produced zinc alginate–hydroxyapatite composite microspheres. After calcination, Zn-containing beta-TCP ceramic microspheres were produced.
