Induction of a new isozyme of superoxide dismutase at low temperature in Potentilla astrisanguinea Lodd. variety argyrophylla (Wall. ex. Lehm) Griers

Exposing the plants of Potentilla astrisanguinea Lodd. variety argyrophylla (Wall. ex. Lehm) Griers to temperatures of 4 and -20 °C led to an increase in SOD activity compared to the control plants kept at 25 °C. Concomitantly, there was induction of a new, copper-zinc-SOD isozyme in Potentilla. Feeding the plant with cycloheximide stopped the induction of the new isozyme, indicating the possibility of a nuclear-encoded protein. Interestingly, the induced isozyme showed a prominent activity when the gel was developed at -20 °C.
