Abstract :
We study the stability of the stripe states in the two-dimensional t–t′–J model using a variational Monte Carlo method. The next-nearest-neighbor hopping t′<0 stabilizes the stripe states around 1/8 hole doping rate. We compare the energies of the stripes with different incommensurabilities and find that the stripe with periodicity consistent with experiments gives the lowest energy for the reasonable parameter regime t′/t∼−0.2. We also study the effect of the negative t′ on the phase separation and conclude that the stripe sate has nothing to do with the tendency toward the phase separation.
