Abstract
Scientific and applied interest to graphite intercalation compounds (GIC) and their derivative materials is due to the possibility to find interesting properties for these materials applications. The distinguishing features of the sealing materials are: chemical stability in aggressive mediums, high elastic and strength properties, and ecological purity. Operational characteristics of sealing materials are influenced by exfoliated graphite (EG) properties, especially by surface area and bulk density. The dependence of the above mentioned characteristics on the way of chemical and thermal treatment is considered. The significant changing of sealing materials properties is observed via the formation of exfoliated graphite/pyrolitic carbon composite. Increase in deposition time of pyrolitic graphite is accompanied by improvement not only elastic and strength but also electric and thermal conductivity.
