A dithallium-derivative of an amino-tripod by demetallation of the trithallium triamide in dioxane

The tris(aminosilyl)silane MeSi{SiMe2NH(4-CH3C6H4)}3 (2) was characterized by X-ray diffraction and found to adopt a “paddle weel” type arrangement. Upon controlled thermolysis of the thallium(I)amide derived from MeSi{SiMe2NHtBu}3 the dimetallated diamido-amine [MeSi{SiMe2N(Tl)tBu}2{SiMe2NHtBu}] (3) was obtained and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction. The two remaining thallium atoms and the amido-N atoms form a four-membered ring while the remaining NH-amino function coordinates weakly to one of the thallium atoms.
