Abstract :
Cu(II)/oxalato coordination polymer with 3-pyridinepropanol (3-Hhpp) has been prepared and structurally characterized as [Cu2(3-Hhpp)4Br2(ox)]n. Its structure consists of neutral centrosymmetric oxalato bridged dinuclear Cu(II) entities. One of the two crystallographically independent 3-Hhpp ligands acts as an additional bridge between the dinuclear units giving rise to the formation of two dimensional layers. The magnetic susceptibility measurements revealed a strong antiferromagnetic interaction between the copper metal ions with J/kB = − 243(2) K (with H = − 2 J SCu1·SCu2). The strength of the exchange interaction is correlated with published magneto-structural data on related oxalato-bridged Cu(II) compounds and discussed on the basis of the structural features.
