Abstract :
The addition of 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane (PTA) to CoCl2 · 6H2O results in oxidation of phosphorus to the phosphine oxide (Odouble bond; length as m-dashPTA). Isolated from this reaction are the first metal complexes of Odouble bond; length as m-dashPTA, [PTAH](OPTACoCl3) (1) and [Co(OH2)3(OPTA)(OPTACoCl3)2] (2). Both 1 and 2 have been crystallographically characterized and involve nitrogen coordination to a image fragment. Complex 2 contains both an octahedral Co(II) center, with three facial aquo and three facial Odouble bond; length as m-dashPTA ligands bound via oxygen. In addition, tetrahedral Co(II) centers are coordinated to two of the Odouble bond; length as m-dashPTA ligands via nitrogen.
