Molecular ladders with finite arms: The first 1D→2D polythreading with finite components based on flexibly long ligand

The reactions of MII nitrate (M = Co, Ni) with 1, 4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl) benzene (bix) gave two novel interesting coordination networks [M2(bix)3(NO3)4]. The network contains 1D zigzag molecular ladder motifs, with anionic co-ligand NO3− as side arms on both sides, which thread through the squares of adjacent polymeric units in a mutual relationship, resulting in the first 1D→2D polythreading with finite components based on flexibly long ligand.
