Abstract :
The hydrothermal reaction of Ln(III) nitrate, Mn(II) sulfate hydrate with 5-nitroisophthalic acid (H2NIPH) produced two novel metal organic frameworks (MOFs), [Ln2Mn(NIPH)4(H2O)4]·6H2O [Ln = Eu (1), Nd (2)], which represent the first examples of three-dimensional Ln(III)–Mn(II) heterometallic MOFs based on rod-shaped molecular building blocks (MBBs). In the structures, two LnO9 polyhedra and one MnO6 polyhedron are bridged in a corner-sharing fashion to form a trinuclear unit [Ln2MnO20], which is further connected to each other by carboxylate groups to give a [Eu2MnO20]-(O-C-O)2-[Eu2MnO20] heterometallic rod. The thermal properties and magnetic properties of 1 and 2 have been investigated in the solid state.
